North Head
We are back from the Coromandel, but before I post about that, I thought I should put a few pics up from our little trip to North Head. It is just a short drive or ferry ride from Auckland, so it's a nice place to go for a hike away from the noise of the city. I had never been there before, but really enjoyed it.
North Head was Auckland's first line of defense for a long time. Here is my dad with one of the large guns up there (they're not in working order anymore, and this was not the largest of the guns).
There are also lots of tunnels around where people used to hide out and watch for enemy boats. It was a little creepy in some of them, especially since our flashlights (called torches here) were not very strong.
