Knitting Socks

My Dad called me one day in January, before his birthday on the 23rd, asking me if I knew how to knit socks. I told him I hadn't before but I could figure it out. He said he wanted some nice socks to wear around the house. I thought this would be a great birthday gift for him, even if it would be a little late. On his birthday I went and got some yarn. I found a pattern on the internet to use that sounded good and not too complicated for this beginner sock knitter. Then I got started. I got to a point in the pattern where I had no idea what to do and my Stitch and Bitch wasn't any help. I emailed the woman who wrote the pattern and asked her for help. She directed me to a website that had videos about how to knit things. It was amazing and totally helped me figure out how to move on. I wish I would have taken a picture of the finished product. It was a bit ridiculous how big and mis-shapen it was. So, I took it out and started over. What you see in this picture is take two, the smaller sock, and take three, the larger sock. Some day, I might get this right. As for now, I have to get to the yarn store to get some more to make matches for these two. Sorry Dad, you might get these sometime this year!

Ok, they might not match, but i'm still entirely impressed that you can knit socks! You're amazing.

both takes -- though mismatched -- are far beyond what I could ever hope to do!

Brooke,
I got your message and have tried to call you back. Is your message a generic computer voice saying "the person cannot be reached?" If not, I am leaving messages for someone else. Funny! So... call me again or I will track you down another way.
Thanks!
Julie

Brooke,

As long as you're in town, you should solicit my wife for help. She can turn a mean heel, and she works at a real live yarn store (knitorious).

E-mail me if you want a get-together. Travis and I can find something to fill our gullets with while you knit, I'm sure.
