Piha

Ok, so I am about to copy Travis and do a blog post about Piha beach. The reason I am about to do this is because the camera with new pictures on it is in the other room and I do not feel like getting up, so I have to use pictures already on the computer. But hey, we walked a lot today. :) More to come on that later...

But before pictures of Piha, I have a few more from the south island I forgot about!

This is a picture I think Travis had on his blog a while ago, because he's more up to date than I am, but it is a sea lion, and it is alive. We went to a beach where they were sprawled out all the way down on the sand. Once in a while one would sit up to scratch itself or fling more sand over it's back. They were cute, but a little intimidating because they are so big! An adult male can weigh over 800 pounds. (I think)

This is me at the very bottom of the south island! We've been to the very top and very bottom, which is pretty cool. In the brochure we had, there was a sign that proved that, but the sign was not there anymore! The signpost was, however, so we know we had the right place. It was so windy, as you can see. All the trees in the area looked crazy because of the constant wind.

Here we have Liz, Jenna, and Sue. You might recognize Jenna and Sue from other postings, but they were kind enough to meet up with us for lunch when we were driving through Christchurch on our way back up the south island. And they brought their friend Liz along, who is also very nice and fun! :)

These next ones are completely random, but I had to get them in somewhere. I was so impressed with Bonnette's parallel parking job that I had to take a picture! (or two) She hates parellel parking, and her car is a stick and does not have power steering, but she still got this close to the curb on the first try! Go Bonnette!

And now Piha...we had a nice time enjoying the sounds and sights of waves constantly crashing along the shore. I also enjoyed running from the waves and accidentally stepping on tiny jellyfish that had washed up along the beach. We met a guy from Israel who wrote "I love ..." (insert girlfriend's name that I couldn't read because of the language) and took a picture of it for her. How cute!
