Christchurch

We enjoyed our time in Christchurch. We stayed at the van Rij's house with John, Sue, and Sam. Their parents were gone but they were good hosts for us. :)


















Travis and I visited the Antarctic Center, which I wouldn't do again, but it was ok. It was not worth the money they charge for admission. The thing we thought was pretty cool there was they mimic an antarctic storm in a room they keep really cold. It got really windy and cold in there! Travis still wants to go to Antarctica some day, even after that storm, but I think I'll stay where it's warm. Travis slid down this ice slide a few times because he wanted it on video and I kept messing it up so we finally got it the last time. :)

We went to the City Centre and saw the cathedral there and Travis and John played a big game of chess.






















I'm not really sure what this sign is all about, but we thought it looked kind of cute. Too bad we have no idea what it means. :) It was in the courtyard of the art centre where we went to the market that Saturday. We bought way too much stuff at the market. My favorite purchase was the three-candle-holder made out of old spoons and forks. Yeah, it's pretty much the coolest thing ever. :) We also got some gifts for people, so beware, Christmas will have a New Zealand theme.

Jenna and Christine stole our camera and took many pictures of themselves on it. Aaahhh the beauty of digital pictures! We had fun with all these people. On Sunday night after church we grabbed a bunch of food from the house (potato chip sandwiches) and drove up to these hills outside the city so we could lookout on the city. They showed us an island that used to be a leper colony back in the day. Interesting.
