Pottery Class

For the past month I was able to take a pottery class (at Kreuger Pottery in Webster Groves) with Lauren, who (or is it whom?) I live with. After the first little while, I wasn't sure if I would really like it. I had heard from everyone that it's very difficult, and it's true. It was really hard! But it was fun to see a little progress made throughout the month. In the pictures you see part of the potters wheel as well as some pieces I had worked on that day. They were still wet in that picture. After that stage, they sit under plastic for a week, then we would uncover them, make sure they were dry, but not too dry, and we would trim them. Then they would have to be fired in the kiln for the first time. After that we could glaze them, and then get them fired for the second time. I had no idea how much time and effort went into one piece of pottery! But it has been really fun, and hopefully I'll be able to actually use some of the things I've made. My very first items were hideous, but hopefully one of my mugs will work out. Too bad I don't smoke, because I think the ash trays looked pretty good. :) Maybe I'll post more pictures of the finished products when I pick them up.

According to linguistic proscriptivists, the phrasing would be "...with whom I live..." but we descriptivists say whiz bang, anything goze fo shizzle!

I stumbled across your blog from Facebook. It's fun to see what you guys have been up to. I still have fond memories of interrupting Student Activities meetings with you. :)
