My Blog Title

I was messing with Travis because I thought the name of his blog was kind of dumb. I was saying that no one would know what it meant and stuff like that. He did end up explaining it in one of his blog entries, so I thought I should do the same for mine. He was saying that my title wasn't any better because no one would know what it was from. Well, it is from one of my favorite books of all time, "Pride and Prejudice" by Jane Austen. Jane Austen lived in England from December 16, 1775 until July 18, 1817. Although all of her books involve love and marriage, Jane never marreid. "Pride and Prejudice" was originally called "First Impressions," but was changed during revisions, and was published on January 28, 1813.

SPOILER ALERT!!! Just so you know, I am going to be giving away some of the plot of "Pride and Prejudice" in the next few lines. So, don't read on if you don't want it spoiled!

The line I chose for my blog title, "Saved from something like regret," comes when Elizabeth Bennet was visiting Mr. Darcy's house called Pemberly. Apparently, back in those days, the great houses like Pemberly would get visitors and the houskeeper would give them a tour of the house. This was what Elizabeth was doing and she began thinking that all of the house could have been hers if she would have said yes when Mr. Darcy asked her to marry him. But then she began thinking about how mean and conceited he was, and it saved her from something like regret. So, I just thought that sounded cool. It also made me think about my life and the things I regret and the things I don't.

And for you Jane Austen fans, here is a little trivia. "Persuasion" was Jane's last completed novel which was completed in 1816, but not published until 1818, after her death. When Travis and I were in London, we went to the British Library, and saw the manuscript of "Persuasion!" I was freaking out! The manuscript was sitting on her writing desk too! So exciting. I know some of you already know this story, but I thought I'd put it out there for everyone else. :) And this picture is her house in Chawton, Hampshire, England.

When we were living in Oxford i found out where J.R.R. Tolkein's office was, so i bicycled down there to see what there was, and it was an insurance office or something. I asked the people if they knew that this was where Tolkein wrote a lot of his stuff, and they were all like "Pardon? Who?"
